Hyundai i10

The Hyundai i10 city car underwent a revamp in 2011 with both the exterior and interior being refreshed.

An i10 Blue was introduced with 99g/km carbon dioxide emissions. The i10 is available with two engines - a 1.0-litre ‘Kappa’ three-cylinder petrol and a 1.25-litre ‘Kappa’ four-cylinder petrol.

The 1.0-litre ‘Kappa’ engine replaced the old 1.1-litre ‘Epsilon’ unit. The latest three-cylinder engine achieves 67.3mpg on the combined cycle.

The i10 Blue is the ‘eco’ edition of the i10 with carbon dioxide emissions of 99g/km and is the first in Hyundai’s planned family of Blue models.

Equipment specification saw air conditioning and an iPod plug-in added to the standard list all i10s.The car was also fitted with four airbags, a six-speaker stereo, 14-inch wheels, electric windows and central locking.

The trim levels are Blue, Classic, Active - which replaces Comfort - and Style.

The i10, Hyundai’s biggest-selling model in Europe in 2009, is a full five-seater with room for luggage. A long wheelbase is combined with a modern front and rear suspension design, electric power steering and all-round disc brakes.

All i10s come with Hyundai’s world-beating five-year unlimited mileage warranty. This includes Five Year Triple Care offering five years’ roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks. Of course you wouldn't benefit from these packages if you bought a used Hyundai, which is why many people favour new models.

The i10 has received a series of cosmetic changes to bring it in line with Hyundai’s evolving ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language.

There’s a redesigned radiator grille, more angular headlights and new front air intakes which combine to create a more hexagonal frontal form. A reshaped lower bumper and angular front fog light recesses complete the exterior changes to the front end.

On the sides and rear of the car new style wheels and redesigned rear lamps and bumper are included.

Seven colour schemes are available.

Hyundai gave the i10 Blue a new version of the ‘Kappa’ engine.

The new engine has an average fuel consumption figure in excess of 60mpg and carbon dioxide emissions below the 100g/km threshold.

The 1.0-litre three-cylinder ‘Kappa’ engine offers 68bhp - enough to reduce the i10 Blue’s 0-62mph time by a whole second compared with the outgoing 1.1-litre. The top speed is 93mph.

Hyundai’s 1.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is available with the option of a Classic, Active or Style trim.

This unit, also a ‘Kappa’, was introduced on the previous i10 but was upgraded for the 2011 model.

The engine offers 10bhp more than before at 85bhp leading to a 0-62mph time of 12.3 seconds. The 1.25-litre i10’s top speed is also been increased to 105mph.

Manual versions of the 1.25-litre offer 61.4mpg and emit 108g/km of carbon dioxide.
